to this extensive website dedicated to Supergirl through the ages, from Kara of Krypton to Linda Danvers of Earth. The Supergirls describes the various incarnations of Supergirl in the comics. Comic Books lists all the issues and series for each Supergirl. The Blog is the place for site updates, Smallville Season 7 reviews, and news about Supergirl. The rest of the menu links should be self-explanatory.
This site began in 2000 as a dedication to Supergirl/Linda Danvers of the 1996-2003 Supergirl series written by Peter David. Linda Danvers is an Earth girl guided by the spirit of Kara who was reborn as the newest incarnation of Supergirl when she merged with an artificially created "matrix" Supergirl from a parallel world. After the death of the original Supergirl in 1985's Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new incarnation of Supergirl was introduced in the Superman comics in 1988, with a somewhat bizarre origin as the clone of another dimension's Lana Lang and a unique set of superpowers. This Supergirl was treated poorly in comics for a long time, but she came into her own when she was merged with her "missing half", the human girl Linda Danvers, launching an ongoing series that lasted for seven years and 80 amazing issues. These finely crafted stories brought my favourite character to a whole new level of myth. The longest running Supergirl series to date, the Linda Danvers story explored the modern Supergirl's identity, powers and motivations and firmly established her as successor to the legend of the original Supergirl, Kara from Krypton.
Linda Danvers retired from being Supergirl at the end of her series in 2003. A reimagined version of the original Supergirl, Kara-El of Krypton, was introduced in the Superman/Batman series in 2005 and is currently appearing in Supergirl, Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes, and Teen Titans. The Supergirl series itself has been plagued with creative problems and the character is still trying to find her way after two years. A much better written Supergirl is the one appearing in the excellent Legion series which takes place in the 31st century and features its own independent storyline.
